Our Story & Journey
Built from experience. Guided by purpose.
SustainGear began at the intersection of experience, reflection, and a growing belief that the world does not need more products. It needs better ones.
Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to build brands, develop products, lead talented teams, and work alongside exceptional people. Those experiences shaped me professionally, but they also taught me something deeper about what creates lasting value.
The products people truly keep are rarely the loudest or trendiest. They are the ones that quietly earn their place in everyday life through thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and enduring usefulness.
That belief stayed with me for years.
One of the most meaningful chapters of my career was serving as CEO of Levenger, a company built around products for readers, writers, and intellectually curious people. It was one of the first times I fully appreciated the emotional connection people can have with well-designed products. Not because they are flashy, but because they are intentional. Useful. Timeless. Built with care.
I loved the process of creating products that customers genuinely valued and used for years. I built lasting relationships with employees, designers, and manufacturing partners who shared that same appreciation for quality and craftsmanship.
But over time, my perspective evolved.
As I entered my 50s, I began thinking differently about the kind of company I wanted to build and the impact I wanted that work to have. Personally and professionally, I found myself becoming more intentional about how I lived, what I purchased, and what I valued.
My family and I started paying closer attention to the choices we were making every day. What we consumed. What we wasted. Which products endured and which were quickly discarded. The more intentional we became, the harder it was to ignore how much modern consumer culture revolves around disposability.
Too many products today are designed for replacement rather than longevity. Fast trends. Short product cycles. Cheap materials. Constant consumption.
I wanted to build something different.
Not a brand built around greenwashing or marketing slogans, but a company where sustainability, quality, and thoughtful design are integrated into every decision from the beginning.

That idea became SustainGear.
At its core, SustainGear is about creating products with staying power. Products designed to move seamlessly through everyday life while lasting long enough to matter. Products built with intention, restraint, and respect for both people and planet.
We believe quality itself is a form of sustainability.
Products that last longer create less waste. Products that are thoughtfully designed tend to be used more often and valued more deeply. We believe in buying fewer things, but better things.
That philosophy shapes every decision we make.
We carefully consider materials, construction methods, hardware, functionality, and the small details that influence how a product feels over years of use. We are drawn to timeless design over short-lived trends and understated confidence over loud branding.
We want our products to feel refined, functional, and enduring whether they are accompanying someone through a daily commute, a weekend away, or years of everyday movement.
The inspiration behind SustainGear comes from modern life itself. The blending of work, travel, creativity, movement, and exploration. The desire for products that simplify rather than complicate. Products that support a more intentional way of living.
We also believe sustainability should feel practical and approachable. It is not about perfection. We are still learning, improving, and evolving as a company. There will always be opportunities to do better, and we intend to approach those challenges with honesty and transparency.
What matters most is building responsibly and thoughtfully over the long term.
At this stage in my life, that feels deeply meaningful to me.
SustainGear represents the alignment of my professional experience, personal values, and passion for creating products that genuinely improve everyday life. It is an opportunity to build something intentionally from the ground up and to create the kind of company I believe should exist in the world.
We know our products are not for everyone, and that is okay.
There will always be cheaper alternatives built around shortcuts, faster production, and lower-quality materials. Competing in that race is not our goal.
We are focused on creating products with integrity. Products designed to endure. Products worth keeping.
Because ultimately, the world does not need more stuff.
We need products built with purpose, made to last.
